Delegates Elected Four New Central Council Members At the recent ICF Convention in San Jose, California the delegates elected four new Central Council Members. More detailed biographies will be in future issues of the Bollettino, but here is a little information on each winner. Congratulations to one and all! (The following are listed in alphabetical order, not necessarily in order by number of votes.) Maria Di Paolo from Branch 379, Huntington Beach, California is back on the Central Council after not being re-elected for the 2008-2009 session. Maria was on the CC from 2004-2008 and now starting again in 2009. She has already been a Grand Trustee and a co-chairperson for the Apostolate Committee. Maria was also on the Convention Director's Committee when the Convention was held in her district, the Orange District in 2008. Grand President Jim Jones has assigned Maria to the Apostolate Committee. Teresa D'Alessandro Helfand from Branch 392, St. Francis Borgia, Chicago, Illinois is a newcomer to the Central Council, but a very familiar face to those who attend the Annual Convention. Teresa joined the ICF in 1993 and jumped right in as branch secretary. She has been branch president for the past 12 years and is now also the district president. Teresa is eager to help increase membership and expand the branches in Chicago and the surrounding areas as well as create new fundraisers and help educate members in the Italian language. She has been appointed by Grand President Jim Jones to the Apostolate and Membership Committees. Vincent Piro from Branch 39, St. Cecilia, Merced, California joins the Central Council for the 2009-2010 session. Vince is well known to those who read the Bollettino as the Book Review columnist. At his branch Vince has served as president, vice-president, heritage chair, and chairperson for various branch events. Vince was also the Fresno District president for two years, and currently serves as 2nd Vice. Vince will be working on the Public Relations and Ways and Means Committees. Maria Tollefson from Branch 229, St. Rose of Lima, Chula Vista, California will be representing the San Diego District on the Central Council for 2009-2010. Maria joined the ICF 17 years ago and has served her branch as secretary, first VP and for the last five years as its president. She has been treasurer, first VP and is presently serving her second year as the President of the San Diego District. At the 2008 Convention in Orange, Maria's daughter, Michelle Rubi, received the 2008 ICF Young Adult Leadership Award. Maria's goal while on the Central Council is to promote family memberships and encourage the giving of one's self to the service of others. It is her hope that her experience will help to keep the ICF strong and growing. Maria will be on the Scholarship and Membership Committees.
