Central Council Announces Award Recipients
At the June meeting of the Central Council, the members voted the following people as the recipients of the annual ICF awards to be given at the 2008 Convention in Garden Grove, California. Congratulations to one and all!
Grand President's Award
Elizabeth (Liz) Donaldson
Elizabeth has been selected as the recipient of the Grand President's award which will be presented at the convention in Garden Grove over Labor Day Weekend. She is a member of Branch 191 and has served as Branch Trustee and has been the branch treasurer since 1993. She is often referred to at the "backbone and guardian angel of the branch. She has chaired many events and is responsible for the quarterly Masses and breakfasts.
Family of the Year
The Robert Tomasello Family
The members of this family are dedicated members of Branch 173 in Burlingame and are active at all levels of the branch and district. Presently, Bob is the District Deputy for the San Mateo District.
He served as president of the branch from 1998 to 2002. Bea served as branch treasurer from 1994 to 2002. Daughter Lisa has served in the positions of Corresponding/recording secretary from 1999 to 2007 and served as Bollettino correspondent. Grandson Jack, age 5, is on the garbage patrol for the branch meetings and his brother Michael, age 10 leads the pledge to the flag at meetings. Bob is often found in the kitchen as chef. He also cooks for other branches.
Mother Teresa Award
Father Loren Blessing
Fr. Blessing lives the life of Mother Teresa. He responds to all needs and never judges. He is a great healer, especially those that are grieving from the loss of a loved one. He has little but gives much. He is brave in spirit, going where others will not. He is hope for the down trodden, the inmates, the castoffs and those that society ignores.
Youth Leadership Award
This year we have 2 finalists.
Michelle Rubi
She is a member of Branch 380 in Thousand Oaks, joining in 2004. She has held the office of secretary from 2006 to the present. She helped to organize the St. Joseph Tables. She gets the news out about the branch, to members and to parishioners. She has assembled beautiful baskets for raffles. She was a delegate at the 2005 convention. She serves as the correspondent for the Bollettino. She participtes in the church Adoration Chapel every Sunday.
Richard Interrante
Member of Branch 380, Thousand Oaks. He joined in 2002 and served as sentinel in 2004. His dedication to his young family draws other families to the branch.
Richard developed the branch website and media presentations and entertainment for the children at meetings. He is generous with his many talents, serving the branch, St. Paschal Baylon parish activities, feeding the homeless, annual church festival and supervises the Gifts of Love donations. His children participate in all branch activities.
Pope John Award
David Rose, member of Branch 10
David Rose demonstrates a continuing concern and much hard work on behalf of all the children in Alameda: parochial school students, religious education students, boy scouts, foster children, and any child who is in need. Dave is a very active member of St. Philip Neri Parish as not only a Eucharistic Minister, but has been a member of the Parish Council and Budget Committee. He also began the BINGO program which thrives to this day. As a member of the ICF, Dave is a well-respected Deputy and works tirelessly for all of the causes and foundations he supports.
