Grand President's Address by Jim Jones
The two important dates this month is February 14 and February 17, Valentines Day and the beginning of Lent.
Valentines Day is not celebrated as fanatically in Italy as it is in the United States, but lovers do give lots of flowers and candy.
In the United States we send cards, give gifts, heart shaped candies, call our loved ones, as well as send flowers. It is a special time to tell someone that you really care.
What I like is the "Love Quotes" describing what love means to me. Janice are you listening?
"There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved."
--George Sand
"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever."
--Alfred Lord Tennyson
"True love begins when nothing is looked for in return."
---Antoine De Saint Exupery
"Love doesn't make the world go round; Love is what makes the ride worthwhile."
--Elizabeth Browning
Carnevale is the most popular festival in Italy, with masked balls, parades, and all night celebrations. It is celebrated for more than a week before the start of the Lenten season.
Lent is a time for renewal, sacrifice, alms giving, regular prayer and Mass attendance. This can be a special time to strengthen our faith.
During the 40 days of Lent, please consider donating food, toys, clothing and other supplies to a local charity or become involved in charitable work at Church.
Whatever you do, do it with love. After all, this is the month of love.
